TOP 5 TIPS TO MAKE THE MOST OF THE MINNESOTA CARD SHOW

NextGem has been a proud sponsor and supporter of the Minnesota Card Show since it’s inception in 2023. Each year, NextGem is featured alongside hundreds of tables and vendors from all over the country. The continued success of the event and its ability to draw thousands is a testament of Minnesota community’s intense passion for the hobby.

This year, the Minnesota Card Show is taking place April 18-21 and promises to be even bigger and better!

NextGem will once again have a strong presence and will be displaying some of the rarest, most valuable Vikings, Timberwolves and Twins cards from the late 1990’s. These are some truly special cards that aren’t seen in public very often so be sure to stop by our table in Section M, Row 10.

We will also be buying, selling and trading rare 1990’s cards!

Here is our best advice for anyone attending a card show:

  1. Communicate

Talk to everyone. Strike up conversations with vendors and fellow collectors near you. Engaging with the community is the best part of card shows and you never know what knowledge, deals and friendships will come from those chats. And don’t forget to use NextGem to easily show and share your collection with others.

  2. The Early Bird Gets the Worm (And Best Deals)

When it comes to card shows, it’s best not to be fashionably late. The best deals are often snapped up at the very beginning. In fact, some are gone before the show even officially starts with vendors and repackers working the room during setup. Just like how when a great rare card becomes available on NextGem, it can be gone in seconds. So arrive as early as possible and don’t hesitate if you see a card you want because there are no guarantees it will still be there later.

  3. Cash is King

While many dealers accept a wide array of payment methods, there are some who don’t use credit / debit or mobile payment apps. It’s not always as easy as buying cards on NextGem is. Everyone takes cash though. Another benefit to paying in cash is the seller will oftentimes go a little lower on price, so don’t forget to mention that in your offer.

  4. Don’t Be Afraid to Comp

Even though it can feel a bit awkward there is no shame in comping a card you are considering. Proper research is key to making smart decisions, so don’t hesitate to pull up your favorite pricing tool to figure out a number you are comfortable with. Pro Tip: Every card on NextGem has a “Comps” button underneath it which when tapped shows recent sales on eBay.

  5. Think About Comfort

Wear comfy shoes and bring a card case that doesn’t put too much strain on your hands or back. You’ll be thankful when Hour 5 rolls around. It can be a hassle to constantly pull cards out for potential deals, so use NextGem on your phone to show off your collection and gauge interest first.
